If i found a poem online about a topic, and changed some of the words, would that be copyright infingment?

i found a poem on a topic that i needed for a project, and i was wondering if i changed the words around, would it be copyright infringement? because i don't want to get in trouble, and i liked the poem, but i have to make my own, so would that be bad ?
